Frequently Asked Questions

What is Reiki?
Reiki, pronounced 'ray-key' is a Japanese word meaning 'Universal Life Force'. Reiki is a 2500 year old non-invasive holistic healing practice which produces a profound sense of well being and healing on a physical, emotional and spiritual level. A Dr. Usui rediscovered this practice from Ancient Buddhist teachings.

We all possess this universal energy and when that energy becomes dimenished or blocked Reiki assists the body to come back to balace, to restore a more natural state of health. The practitioner only acts as a conduit for this energy which will go the area most needed.

Reiki will do no harm and is never to be used in place of any medical treatment or used to diagnose.

What is a Reiki session like?
Before the session the practitioner will interview you, answer your questions about Reiki, find out any concerns you may have, and what your expectations are. You will then lie fully clothed (shoes are to be removed) on a bodywork table or sit in a chair depending on your comfort level. Relaxation music will be playing as the practitioner gently touches or holds the hands just above the surface of the body. The torso area is not touched. Each hand postion his head for 3-5 minutes.

During the session as the universal energy flows through the practitioner's hands you may feel warmth on the surface and from within creating a deep sense of relaxation and well being. You may experience a tingling sensation, a flow of energy, a trance state between waking and sleep, and imagery. If you wish to share this with the practitioner you may but it is not necessary for the Reiki to work. The hands need not be placed over the area of concern as the Reiki energy will flow to where it is needed. A full treatment takes about an hour.

    How Does Hypnosis work?
Hypnosis occurs whenever a person is highly focused, such as reading a book, paining a picture, watching a good movie, spaces out while driving a car, or when deeply relaxed. A professional hypnotist can assist the client in regulating the state of hypnosis to create change in behaviour. A person will only accept the suggestions they they want and disregard the ones that they don't want.

Anyone can be hypnotized only if they so choose.

    Levels of Hypnosis
The client is aware of the hypnotist's voice and hears and remembers 50-100% of the session. 90% are more aware. Only 10% will go deeply into hypnosis. A light or deep state of hypnosis is just as effective. By being in a light state the person will remember consciously what is said.

What are the signs of Hypnosis?
A fluttering of the eyes, slowed breathing, increased swallowing, a heaviness or tingling of the limbs, sensation of floating, and deep relaxation are some of the signs that clients report after a session. You will always come out of a session as instructed and also with self-hypnosis. Hypnosis is self-hypnosis. The hypnotist helps to guide you to create change.

    What is the cost?
The hypnotherapist will have you fill out a history and a medical release may also be required if appropriate. You are encouraged to write down your questions before the session and many times the initial interview is done by phone. The person's motivation can help to determine the number of visits, what they want hypnosis for, and what programs are offered with a cost estimate.
